For anyone who cares about such cameras, there is a 1949 Nikon 1 with a 5.0 cm 3.5 lens for sale on Craigslist out of Toronto.
Poster is asking $7,000.00.

It's interesting that the seller mentions the serial number for the lens but not the body.

It's more interesting that the seller mentions the bottom of camera says "made in Japan" and not "made in occupied Japan".

I don't know, the seller only provides one picture for this $7000 item!

I don't see an "M" before the serial number but I can't see clearly.

If I wanted to buy this, I would have to see more pictures or do a physical inspection.

Yes. That's what struck me as well.
For $7,000.00, there should be many many more photos of the camera inside and out, showing all those important features that collectors would want to see.
And if this is a legitimate item, and the person really doesn't know anything about the camera (other than how much to ask for it) they should have enlisted the help of a collector to properly present it for sale.

I could be doing someone some wrong (i.e the seller) but this sale seem a little 'fishy', if one was to spend that sort of money more photos would definately be needed to valididate the camera

It could just be an ad posted by an idiot. He doesn't know how to describe the lens, and he might not realize the word "occupied Japan" is important. He didn't take any other photos.

Some other bozo with a little knowledge might have told him it was valuable.

Someone who is interested should quickly meet him and inspect it. If he doesn't want to meet, only ship it, forget it.

Well, the seller obviously would not meet in person to sell the camera. I'd never buy such an item if shipping was involved, but others might be more gullible.

If anyone answers the ad, you'd get some nonsensical email about "escrow service" or wire transfer being needed to ship it.

Such a rare camera. I would think that if one comes up for sale, it is either:

- a known collector (I only know of a couple Toronto people who'd have one)
- a complete unknown (e.g. garage sale item)
- fraud

I guess we know which of the three options this is.
