1950's Hong Kong Photos (Fan Ho)

Thanks, John. Fascinating human/urban documentary and some images that deserve permanent display somewhere anywhere everywhere.

Thank you, jsrockit, for sharing these links. I had not heard of Fan Ho, and this is truly beautiful work.

I have been a fan of Fan for some years now. Have a book too, there was a nice spread on him in B+W or Camera Arts several years ago.

I consider his work timeless.

I have to admit I didn't know of him, but I'm glad I do now... I figured there were more who didn't know his work here too. Glad some did know of his work too.

Thanks for putting this up. Fascinating images. Hong Kong is still a "picture" city - but these vintage pictures shows something that is most likely long gone.

The one with the woman standing against the wall at the diagonal between light and shadow is so iconic. I've not forgotten it since seeing it a few years ago.

Some of the photos of Central near the market (with the stairs) look very familiar to me — the same stairs still exist, but are far more worn down now. What's changed is the pace of life —*you'd never get compositions like that nowadays. Wonderful area for a walk.
