I bought my 2.1cm Nikkor (mirror lockup lens) from Maitani here on RFF and it's a great optic. I fell in love with non-retrofocal superwides when I started shooting a Leica Super Angulon f/3.4, years ago.. I sold that lens then bought another only a few months later. I kept that lens for a few years but needed money unfortunately and sold that lens along with almost every Leica piece I owned in the summer of 2012. Anyway, I've missed the look of a non-retrofocal superwide since then and now I have the Nikon F mount optic.

For the other 7,162 of you with this lens (production figure taken from Stephen's CameraQuest) you're either proud of your original, unbroken cap or you're fiddling with weird ways to protect the rear element. Perhaps you just use a Nikon F body as a lens cap (that's a perfectly good option as far as I'm concerned.) Since I only have an F2 which will accept this lens and no other F or nikkormat to use as a rear cap, I had to invent my own.

I proudly present my solution:

This is simply a generic hard rubber rear cap that I dremeled a hole through then wedged a pill bottle into said hole. It turns out I got it so close that I don't need to glue the pill bottle. The fit of the plastic bottle in the rear cap is quite tight. I'm going out for an inaugural walkabout shoot today during which I'll see if the new rear cap can withstand rolling about in my bag.

For all you wanting to make a copy using this design, please send a cheque for only $1 taped to the side of a Tormach 15L Slant-Pro lathe, with turret. PM me for delivery address 😀

Nice.

I think I will build one for my Minolta 21mm f4 W.Rokkor-QH.
I drilled out a Minolta lenscap, then put a tiny Schneider large format lenscap on the rear cell.
I like this solution much better. I think I will glue it together for strength.

Here Is How Mine Turned Out.

Here Is How Mine Turned Out.

I used an mini band saw, and mini drill press, to make this one. Finished out with hand file. I ran a bead of J&B Weld Epoxy around the inside and outside and baked the final assembly in the sun for a while.

Seems real solid but will also will see how it holds up over time, bouncing around in the camera bags.
