2 different types of lens coating on Olympus Epic/MJU II

Tonight I noticed that there is 2 different kinds of lens coatings on the Epic/MJU II.

I have 5 of them and I put them under a lamp.

Looking down into the lens, one reflects

Purple
Purple
Green (faint)
Purple

the other reflects

Purple
Orange
Green (really faint)
Orange

Im not sure if the MJU II is different from the EPIC or its different after a certain serial number. Maybe there was different manufacturing plants?

MJU II serial number 786***** Purple Purple Green Purple
MJU II serial number 603***** Purple Orange Green Orange
Epic serial number 517***** Purple Purple Green Purple
Epic serial number 429***** Purple Orange Green Orange
Epic Limited has its on serial unrelated to the regular production Purple Purple Green Purple

I wonder if this makes a difference. Ive yet to shoot the one that reflects orange, so I can't tell on my end (yet).

Put it closer to a light source and it should show up better.

Not sure if it even makes a difference just never noticed until now.

Well finally got around to shooting my Epic with the other coating.

Purple
Orange
Green (really faint)
Orange

The sharpness and detail capture is insane. I can't say for sure that its the different coating that makes the difference but damn.

Tmax400 (light leak on the bottom because I retrieved the leader out of the canister in the light)

Brilliant cameras aren't they? and I paid a pound for my one...


I think they are a little dearer these days.


There are several different labels on the base of the cameras telling you where they were made and so on. That might be a clue about the coating.
