2 year limited warranty - what is covered?

I'd just like to check my understanding on the warranty for the M8 (in Europe):

1. If I don't buy one from a Leica dealer I don't get the Passport, correct? Passport as I understand it covers you for any fault (including accidental damage) for 1 year from purchase? What's the scope of Passport - repair or replace or both?

2. If I don't buy from a Leica dealer I can still benefit from the 2 year limited warranty, yes? What is covered by the limited warranty?

3. Neither warranty is transferable if the camera is sold on

I'm not expecting this camera to go wrong but due to the sum of money involved I need to know I have some backup. I'm more than able to absorb my R-D1 dying as that money is long gone and its reasonably cheap to get another secondhand but that's not the case with the M8...
 
It's my understanding that nobody gets a Passport warranty with the M8. The warranty card that came with mine was only for a 2 year regular warranty with no option to extend like comes with every other M body/lens.

I was somewhat disappointed about that, since it was the first Leica body I ever bought brand new and I thought part of what I was paying for was the Passport.

I mean... it's Leica's most expensive and most complex camera body to date and they offer the cheeziest warranty?

Is it true that European buyers are rewarded with an actual Passport warranty on the M8?

John, yes - according to Robert White if you buy from a recognised dealer you get the two year limited warranty with the first year under full Passport cover. Of course in Europe you have further rights under the law - goods effectively have to work as sold almost indefinitely and your rights if they don't are repair or replace. Particularly the case with electronic goods. The 90-day limited warranties that are commonplace on US electronics (e.g. Xbox360) wouldn't be legally enforcable over here...
