Georgia 2011 RFF Meet-Atlanta

oh, we'll be there assuming no emergencies. really, really looking forward to it. hey, maybe another planning meeting will be necessary in march ...

Monthly get-to-gethers would be grand--witn maybe side trips to Memphis...:)
Or at least to Asheville--or Chattanooga or or or...who knows?
Maybe just the Varsity--or Little five Points--is the Yacht Club stiil there?
I know Manuel's is...
Paul

There is a European Car Show in Oct. I think, at the BMW plant near Greenville S.C. that would be pretty cool if you like automobiles. I think mwooten has been to it.

Hey, I live in Asheville. I'm not making it to the Atlanta meetup, but dang, you just mentioned my town. If anyone ends up here I'd love to hang out.

Hey Dave, David and John--great meeting you guys today!
Sounds as if we can get a few interesting side trips together.
Thanks again!

And forgot to mention this--mackigator--you are MOST welcome to join us when we get up to Asheville--the downtown section alone os worth seeing again--and of course--there's always George's house out in the countryside...:)
And Greg Hill--the car show sounds great--an easy drive from here.
Please keep us posted on the dates...

Paul and David, it was great to meet you guys along with Dave today, and the side trip to Wings Camera was sure worth the trip. That Vivitar 28mm took just a little clean up and handlles nicely on the Nikkormat FTn. I'm giving real, hard thought to calling Mike at Wings first thing Monday AM and telling him to put that Fuji GA645zi on hold for me. Paul, I think that camera would be perfect for some of the ideas we tossed around.

I'm feeling very positive about getting a group of like-minded photogs together in the Atlanta regional area. It's nice to know that the nice folks we meet here are just the same face-to-face.

John--great to meet you, too.
Wing's is closed on Mondays.
He'll be there Tuesday, though!
The Vivitar was a "buy" for sure--Mike usually has great stuff for VERY reasonable prices..
Looking forward to our next meet-up.

Whew, grandkid duty is time-consuming and tiring! Whilst they watch a DVD, I have a few minutes to catch up on RFF.

Today was amazing! Paul, David, John, thank you for dropping by the Varsity, it was such an honor to get to know each of you better and now I know I can learn a lot from each of you.

For everybody who is interested in the upcoming 2011 Atlanta RFF Meet, we brainstormed and have come up with a number of exciting possibilities!!!

As you know we have a lot of folks coming from out of town, some overnight, some on a day trip. So, we want to make the day as flexible as possible for everyone.

We are working on some maps, directions, and information for getting around town and will post all of it as it is available. In the meantime, we are looking at the following schedule of activity:

9:00 am - First meet-up of the day for those already in-town. Location TBA

9:00-11:00 am
Option #1: Atlanta Dogwood Festival @ Piedmont Park
Option #2: Free time to roam the streets of Atlanta
Option #3: Atlanta History Center
Option #4: Atlanta Botanical Center
Other suggestions would be appreciated!

11:30-12:30 pm
Lunch - Location to be flexible and includes dozens of choices that we can discuss over the next month or so.

1:00 pm - 4:00pm
High Museum - HCB Exhibit followed by free-walk-and-shoot with the Margaret Mitchell House, Fox Theater, Oakland Cemetery and numerous other interesting photographic opportunities, all within a few minutes drive or bus ride from the museum. Don't forget KEH, Wing's Camera and other cool camera shops nearby. Tickets to the High Museum are to be purchased on your own, online as soon as possible due to the crowds.

5:00 pm
BBQ at David Dearborn's House!!!!!:):):)Thank you so much, David!

followed by...ta da!...drumroll please....

A GEAR SWAP at David's House!!!!!:D:D:D

What can I say? If we can pack anymore into this one day, let me know and we can see if it can be done! Ah, Spring Time in Atlanta.

Of course, all of the above is up for discussion, so let's get started! :)

Paul, thank you so much for the tip to visit Wing's, a trip overdue by decades.

Got a couple of filters and a brand-new ceyoo flash unit with cable on hold until next week! But, I gotta tell you, that M2 is gorgeous and the IIIC conversion to a IIIF with the Summitar is sooooo tempting. Thank you for allowing me to check out your own Barnack, now I have the fever too! Gotta have one!

Then, there were the Olympus XA, XA2 point-and-shoots with flash for less than $30 each, and the Canons and Nikons and the rest of the Leica estate items. First time I ever tried a Leica SLR, those R4 and R4s bodies were beautiful and it's a good thing he didn't have any of THOSE lenses!:):)

Okay, I am worn out and got to get the kiddo's to bed, we will have a whole lot of discussion starting tomorrow, can't wait! Thanks guys!

This is going to be great! I'm going to need a visit to my chiropractor though after the full day on April 16th. Right now I've got at least three cameras that I want to drag around all day. I'll be the silver haired hunchback who wanders into the barbeque at David's place. Going to be fun for sure.
