I have received a very kind offer from 1750Shooter, of the following items for prizes for the 2012 FSU Contest...

Kiev 4A with Jupiter-8 lens
Jupiter-8 lens in Contaxt mount
Jupiter-12 lens in Contax mount

I'm not quite sure how prizes should be handled. Two things to consider intially...

  • There seems little point in lumping everything into one prize because there are two Contax mount J-8s.
  • Since the contest is international, shipping costs will need to be covered.

If the prizes are split up, then they could be awarded on the basis of most votes overall, regardless of category. For example, J-8 for 3rd, J-12 for 2nd, with the Kiev+J-8 as the grand prize for 1st. Alternatively, if anyone else has some kit that they would be happy to offer as a prize (or prizes), we might be able to reach a point where we have a prize for each category.

On shipping, I would suggest that prize winner and prize giver agree amongst themselves on how shipping is taken care of. If the cost is prohibitive for both, and it can be for some international shipments, then perhaps a given prize can go to someone else (in the spirit of the christmas giveaway last year).

Thoughts?

Any more offers of kit for prizes? Feel free to post here or send me a PM.

I like your idea - i was organizing few previous FSU contests - but i think you are much much better organized than i - congratulations on great work!

Awesome, thanks 1750shooter!

I haven't thought this through but how about micro-contributions from everybody towards the postage? I wouldn't mind something on the order of 1 USD to enter. Not sure if that would raise enough.

I like the idea of lots of small contributions towards postage. I'm not sure an entry fee type of thing would work, given that we don't know how many will enter, or how much the postage will cost. I think I'd wait until after the contest and see what we can work out once the prizes and shipping are more finalised.

I'm inclined to think postage should be the responsibility of the winner. If it is too much, the effected winner can default to the next in line for the prize. That may seem harsh, but it is simpler.

But I am not against contributions toward that either. However, I think we should wait to see if it is needed prior to collections being made.

Special prize

Special prize

Hi all,

I'd be happy to contribute a small skein of hand-spun yak yarn for a special prize for "Best Light Leak". I've got a source nearby for yak undercoat which I've been thinking of trying out on my spinning wheel. Definitely a few steps up from the coarse hairy stuff in the back of my (leaky) Kiev.

What do you think?

Just developed a roll panF from my Mockba-5 and I'm sure I could win a light leak contest, and I've got three of the four edges sealed with dark cord in the grooves. The opening edge leaves me void of ideas how to seal it though.Leaving it in the case makes it no longer a jacket pocketable camera.Regards,Peter
