2013 Leica Oskar Barnack Award Winner

Yawn. I just don't see it. I can think of a half dozen Leica/RF photographers in my circle whose work is better than this.

Few of them I really enjoyed, others didn't do much for me. I do love how she has cast such a harsh environment.

I liked the first one only. The rest, while largely nice pictures, do nothing for me. I always find the descriptions of projects like these to be irritatingly full of silly formulations and hyperbole:

In an intensely emotive and poetic manner, the photographer infuses her images of the Arctic desolation and the icebound landscape and its residents with a particularly fascinating beauty.

Also, I think the Barnack Award should require film-based entries shot on Barnack cameras.

But that's just me.

I thought the pictures were great, a couple maybe slight clichéd, but generally a very good collection.

I agree about the descriptions, but it's not the first collection of photos I've seen with cringe-worthy text alongside.

I really liked the series. Not sure at first but then it grabbed me , I revisited it and enjoyed it more second time around.

I like the series for its simplicity and colour solution. A mix of tender blue, light purple and pink refrains in every picture of this God forsaken place. Congrats!

The photographs are nice.
not spectacular, not vivid in perspective, not very lively..
Have seen quite a bit of Arctic type photography.
This really not deserving of such an award.
i never bother to read "artist's statement". It's the culmination of years of art school and lend nothing to images. The image should speak for itself..
Ragnar Axelsson works with Leica and his work is superior.
The images live. They are real. Google 'Ragnar Axelson' 'Last of the Arctic'.
Addendum. The Barnack prize ought to be on film..

Nice work. Soth seems to me more of an influence on her than (the earlier mentioned) Shore, especially his Mississippi work. Her palette is very particular, in a good way.

It's more of an accolade from the judges than a description I should think. There's a link to an interview somewhere in there and she comes across as refreshingly down to earth.
