I'd like to buy the Voigtlander 4/21mm and use it with the R-D1. How does that work? Many thanks for your feedback!

it works well...but i prefer the 25 on the rd1.
fov with the 21 is around 32mm and with 25 it is closer to 38mm.

How does the ol' Super Angulon 21mm lens work on the RD-1 ?

...Errrrr....so you don't use an external viewfinder then? Just preset the camera to 35mm? For Back alley....how do you use the CV15....with or without an external finder?

I use the cv15 on the R-D1. It is a good combo. I use the external finder for film, and tape the edges to get the correct field of view. There are view finders 'for digital' if you can find one. As the screw mount cv15 isn't rangefinder coupled, I don't use the R-D1 finder at all with this lens. Image quality is good, there is some light fall off though, which I correct in lightroom.

I use the LTM version of the C/V 21mm f4 with good results on an RD-1.
In my experience it vignettes less than the V/C 28mm f3.5.

For the 21 I use the VC 28/35 minifinder, and just interpolate. For the 15 I use the 21 finder that came with the 21.
Though, really, I pretty much stopped using external finders with the 12 and 15 and just started guessing instead.

The 21mm is easy to handle. You can work with hyperfocal focus or use the rangefinder coupling. Focussing is very smooth and comfortable. Colors are lively, with aperture fully open you can play a little bit with DOF.
An external viewfinder is not a "must have". The full finder (not the framelines) of the Epson RD1 gives a good idea of what you get.
The 21 has significant vignetting - but you can use this as a composing tool.
Since I own the 15mm Heliar, my favourite outfit is 15mm/40mm (Summicron or Nokton), sometimes plus a Jupiter 1,5/50 (becaue of bookeh). But 21 plus 40 or 50 is a good outfit as well.
The 15mm is point and shot, the 21mm is the more classic lens.

I use the 21/f4. Works well IMO. I frame using the whole finder, which is ever so slightly too small to cover the full field of view. I use it mostly as a snap shot lens, preset for what it is I'm looking for and frame and snap away.

It works great on R-D1, although you need to be careful to screw the lens into a camera.

hi Back alley - OT... since you like the 25/4, does your copy have a significant vignetting on the RD1? mine seems to have it.
