21mm Super Angulon

I haven't coded either of my lenses (21SA and 40mm Rokkor/Summicron).

For the 21SA, coding may reduce cyan/magenta fringing but I haven't experienced it like some have. It's barely noticeable, and if it is I just reduce the cyan colour saturation in Aperture until it is mostly gone - works pretty well.

I havent received an IR/UV filter for the lens yet, so using a filter may result in more fringing and if so then coding would be more advantageous.

I think most people are coding the lens as a WATE?

ALSO, as an FYI: B+W 49mm 486 filters do not fit in the hood, the diameter for the filter is 1mm too thick. I'll either be swapping the glass in my filter over in to my Series VI B+W UV-A filter or filing down the 49mm filter diameter a little so it fits (these filters in 48mm or Series VI are impossible to find out here).

I searched B&H and couldnt find the 48mm filters when I ordered mine :/

The 48mm filter will fit the lens, it may or may not fit within the 12501 hood. I got a slim line 49mm UV/IR and it's too wide by about 1mm. I'll be swapping the glass out into an old Series VI filter I have laying around.

Optech and other manufacturers make a variety of narrow and wide bandpass filters for telescopes. You can find them ion ebay searching with UV and IR separated plus 48mm.
Your local telescope shop may have a much cheaper alternative to a BW 486 filter. I found a 48mm IR for my Canon 50mm f/1.4 for only $40.
Adorama and BH both carry them but sometimes they are out of stock.

Got a second SA21 today. Had to return the first one I received because the hood was cracked but the seller did not want to compromise.
This one is better and optically it's like new. Not a single spot inside in or around the glass.
I have wrapped the hood and the viewfinder with 3M rubber tape, some real good stuff I think.
In the process I came over a brand new hood in box, something I believe is now extremly hard to find.

Time I finally contribute a bit to this thread:

M3, SA 4/21mm, Neopan 400, Rodinal 1+50

Btw: This shot perfectly shows one of the two main reasons why I love the SA: Straight lines!

Very straight lines!

Soooooo, what is the other main reason why you love the SA?

First reason: I love the small size. You can just put it in your pocket for when you need it. If you've ever used SLR wide-angles, that an amazing thing. (It's what I love about the whole M-system, by the way).

Second reason (complete): The way it draws: Because of the straight lines, it doesn't really look like an ultra-wide angle. You can use it quite well to photograph people, while that mostly just looks weird with a similar lens with more distortion.

Let me preface this by saying that the photography on this particular thread is probably the best on RFF. That's not necessarily the lens, either. It takes a skilled person to use a 21mm lens and here, we have it! So many gorgeous photos!

Now, Penzes, THAT is a wonderful photo! It's outstanding and proves that we don't need fast apertures! Beautiful.

I can show you contact sheets with unacceptable vignetting until f16. Brand new in the box 3.4 SA. Cosine 4th rule dictates this will happen.

I kept mine 3 months and bought a 21 2.8 pre when it came out. Still have it.

I does make nice pics at 11 or 16 though.

Only every now and again does a lens like the Super Angulon come along.:D

Gang, take it down a notch. Too many eyes see this board. Now Nando, Kevin, me, and others who are saving up will need to save more if this keeps up.

Instead, let's discuss how the crappy fall off and unsharp corners just aren't up to modern standards. It's a poor performer. Build quality is crap. You can't use AE or the infernal(sic) meters on the M6, M7 and M8. Using an external finder is just a terrible experience. Most of them get haze and flare like someone's hair in a Pepsi commercial.

Also, I read on the internet it doesn't work on many Leica or Zeiss or Bessa bodies, and it's a crapshoot if it will work on yours. I had one but I traded it for a cellphone camera.

Oh no! Don't tell Jeanloup Seiff! (RIP)

For some, this is one of the main reasons to shoot this lens.
