21mm Super Angulon

I've been having a blast with it Michael. I have more to share I just didn't want to inundate you all at once. I have grown to not be very dependent on metering, most of the time I just estimate the lighting based on experience. However San Francisco has a lot more deep shadow to deal with than I'm used to in Southern California so I was a bit off in my estimations. Only a handful of shots were unsalvageable in my opinion, most could be lightened to an acceptable degree (without having to push too far).

Fun fun lens though! Just need to decide if I want to keep the Elmar-M as my 50 or go back to a Summicron 50 to pair with this gem. Somehow and rather unexpectedly 21/50 has become a setup I quite like!

Yeah, the change in latitude always catches me out.

I hear the f/1.0 Noctilux is a beautiful companion to the SA... :D
(luckily I'm not a 50mm person)

I'm giving 35mm a bit of a break on Leica, but I do have a very nice old Nikkor-N 35mm f/1.4 that I picked up for my F. I definitely AM a 50mm person though, for sure one of my most treasured focal lengths.

While I'm at it, here's some more images!

Same trip, same setup. M-A / SA21 / Tri-X

i bought a Chrome one of m21 3.4 last week. I took some pic with Fomapan 200 ei 400, hc-110 H on an overcast day. I found the backlit pic is of very low contrast though.

Super Agulon is very handy, you dont need to focus or look at the viewfinder.

I just love the SA 3.4. There is something very special about it. What exactly is it though that makes this lens so special, any suggestions? (I also have a 21 Super Elmar - a 'surgical' lens)

i have tried one more roll of film, it seems it tends to overexpose when shooting outdoor condition. shooting indoor is okay. is it due to some haze inside the lens? should i send it to CLA? anyone has the same experience with this lens?
Cheers

Do you have a hood for it? That certainly makes a big difference with flare if the sun's anywhere in the neighbourhood. This lens gives me wild flare outside with the sun anywhere near the frame, the hood certainly helps quite a bit.

Are you using an in-camera meter? The heavily recessed rear element blocks the metering on many cameras, I always sunny 16 or handheld meter, it's not a good lens to use in-camera metering.

I love the tones this lens can bring, along with its lack of distortion.

yes, with the original hood on.
no, i use an iphone app (light meter). I guess it is the haze. I have never had blown highlight before with other lenses.

thank you for your comment. i like its tones too.
