21mm Super Angulon

Thanks !! :)

Roma, acrystalball, Mael, Gregory, great shots !!

About metering, I use an external (hand-held) meter with my M7 or M4-P. Recently, I have used the lens with my friends M8 (with upgraded shutter) and the camera metered quite correct when setting +2 EV exposure compensation.

21SA and metering

21SA and metering

don't ask where i found or read this, but it seems to make sense:

Lenses which project deeply into the body cavity may not give correct metering with the M5, worse, they may damage the meter cell. The 21/4 Super Angulon and the 21/3.4 below # 2437251 must be modified by Leica before mounting on the M5, otherwise Leica warns of damage to the meter.

i believe there's also a word of caution about the SA and the CL camera, but the experts/owners can confirm.

greetings from hamburg

Rick,

that's what I know about the lens, too. I got a modified M-mount flange from Don (DAG), that prevents the meter-arm of the M5 from swinging out (there is a cut-out in the flange so the camera can not sense a mounted lens). The Super-Angulon-M can NOT be mounted on the Leica CL, though !!

Cheers,

Gabor

So what's my status with an MP?

Honestly, given the example shots and my burning desire for a wide angle lens, I wouldn't even mind the external finder and handheld meter.

Love the Grain & City Grit...

wow just seen this, perfect picture to me.

Sooo.. If I do +2 stops on my MP I'll be sweet?

Nope. It works only with the M8 (maybe M8.2 and M9 also) because they have different metering system than the film Leicas with cloth shutter and a white reflective spot on it.

Oooh.. NO!! I think I'm in love with the SA lens after exploring this thread full of beautiful wide angle photographs, but I just can't see my self carry LM. Hmm.. then again, never say never..
Gabor, thank you for a info.

A Thing of Beauty

A Thing of Beauty

Like some kind of bonehead, I recently decided to sell my Super Angulon and Black M3. When photographing them for the "for sale ad", I realized...

...I JUST COULDN'T DO IT

YARON: GORGEOUS Setup..'EYE CANDY' Indeed !!!
well at least you're come back to your senses...

Am I crazy to be seriously considering selling off my ZM 25mm to get a SA? I've got a chance to grab one w/ hood and finder for a great price, but need to sell something to fund it...and the 25 is what I use the least. (but when I had the 21mm for my contax G system I used it a LOT...)
As great as the 25mm is, I just haven't loved it as much as I did the 21mm, and I've pretty much fallen for the 50's-60's era Leica glass.

Brian, you're not crazy in my book. I'd love a SA someday (as much as I like my CV 21/4, it would be no trouble to dump its bony butt for the curvier SA) -- if it's a good price, why not snap it up? Sounds like you used to love the focal length, so I bet you'd take to it again in a heartbeat and the SA is a magical lens.

EDIT: what am i thinking? Brian, you definitely should not buy it, but instead tell me who is selling at a hot price so I can pick it up! ;)

If selling the ZM 25 will find the SA purchase, then you're getting a very good price indeed!
