it's just hide and seek
It is quite interesting to see that curvature of field appears in some shots while others don't show that...

For those of you using the 21 SA with the original 12501 hood, you'll know there was no cap for the hood. Perhaps this has been pointed out before, but the current 14040 cap for the 35/1.4 ASPH hood fits the 12501 almost perfectly. Means you can safely keep the 21 SA in your bag with the hood on.

thanks for that advice tim. i'm getting tired of taking the hood off to put the cap on and vice versa.

About the 14040 hood cap on the 12501 hood: I've had the 21 SA and hood since 1977, but didn't learn of the 14040 match until a couple years ago. It's a small miracle that I never lost the hood and the lens cap, with all the years of juggling them in and out of pockets and bags. The SA is a quite small lens, and it is easier to handle with the hood always on, IMHO. I wish my matching metal Leitz 21 VF had survived the years as well: it's become internally hazed, and unfortunately I don't believe it can be cleaned.

Have you given DAG / Sherry Krauter a call? You'd be suprised what they can work on.

Has anyone else noticed that the 21mm SA (at least the f4 version, don't know about the f3.4) uses more negative space? When I use the 21mm, I get less than a milimeter between frames, and when I use my 'cron 5cm, I get nearly 3 mm.
Makes cutting the strips a lot harder!

About cleaning the haze from 21mm VF, I have checked around. The challenge is that the elements are cemented into the metal housing in this model. John van Stelten at Focal Point in Colorado, an expert at lens rebuilding and restoration (among many other things), says he has about 75% success in disassembling these without fractures, so I will probably ask him to try. It requires heating to release the elements from the housing.
