Hi folks,
I recently bought a SA/3.4 with the original clip-on hood 12501, and had taken one roll of b&w, but when I scanned the strip I found that there were two darkened corners as if vignetting but only happened at TWO corners( will show a picture later ).
Does the hood matter when it has not been rotated vertically or in other degree? Does the hood must be rotated in this direction (http://www.overgaard.dk/grafik/leic...lon-M_f34/leica_m4_21mm_lenshood_L1080407.jpg)

The picture you show of the Hood on the Camera is Fine ...properly placed
As for that kind of vignetting ...... Not sure
Vignetting is One of the Characteristics of the 21 SA
I adore vignetting.... Adds Character so to speak
If vignetting is Not your Cup of Tea, a Zeiss lens would be more in your Liking

The picture I shown is the correct sample, here's what I am concerning
I like vignetting too, and that's why I love my SA/3.4 too! But I afraid this is not only vignetting, and hopefully not because of my m4-p, so came to ask if the hood matters!

I immediately had the same idea (misaligned hood) as Johan. One thought, are the springs in the hood firm? If not there it might be possible for the hood to rotate.

buzzardkid and muser53, thank you for your useful comments, I am quite sure the misaligned hood is leading the aforesaid problem, and I just realized the small stud on top of the lens lost, thus the hood keep rotating during the shooting, I will try to fix something like you did for your lens and have it fixed on it to ensure the hood cannot rotate easily.

I recently stumbled into the expensive world of Leica gear and two days ago I bought a Super-Angulon 21/3.4 without knowing anything about it. There were no caps, no viewfinder and no hood but the price was great.
But there were more reasons for the low price. The front ring and the aperture ring are a bit loose. If I move the front ring around the diaphragm reacts to it and it closes a bit. Also the aperture ring sounds like it ate some grains of sand in the past decades and focusing the lens is not as smooth as it schould be.
Since there seem to be some people in this thread who know this lens I wonder if you could help me disassemble it. I already unscrewed the back element and tightened the three screws underneath but those don't seem to cause the problem.

You want to be very careful since a loose aperture retainer can cause your blades to come out of their respective slots and possibly get bent. There are no spares either, according to Sherry K. so the aperture blades you have are the ones you will have to deal with unless you find a parts lens.
Remove the rear element and set it aside. Under the rear element you'll find a retaining ring. Use a thick sharp spanner to remove the retaining ring. When you do this, the surface you should be gripping is the front of the lens barrel, not the focusing mount.
After the retaining ring is out, gently slide the front of the lens out of the focusing mount. Lens optics and aperture control will come out together in one nice block. You could put the rear element back into the optical block you just took out if you'd like to keep the interior of the lens around the aperture clean.
Inspect the cylindrical middle portion of the optical module for a small brass screw which should stick out about 2mm. If this is missing, this is the reason the front ring is spinning. If the screw is missing you'll have to contact DAG or Sherry K or Focal Point for a replacement. It might be better for you to have one of them do the work though. Last time I talked to Sherry about fixing the aperture on one of my old SAs, she quoted me less than $100.
Maybe try posting some photos if you can to help demonstrate the problem.

I took some photos of the lens:
Front
The front ring and the aperture ring are loose and can be moved about 1mm to the left or right.
Back
Rear element removed
Retaining ring removed
Both screws seem to be okay and tightening them doesn't fix the problem.

Solved it. Thanks for your help.
Removed the two screws to get to the aperture ring. Time to remove some of the 47 year old dust.
Removed the front element. Those four little screws underneath it came loose over the years and caused my problem.
Cleaned everything and put it back together. Now its time to take some shots with this nice little lens.
