Hello.

Is it worth to use the Voigtländer 15mm D viewfinder (plus 15mm Heliar on a R-D1) ?

Or with a conventional 21mm viewfinder it's enough?

I want to know if money difference is worth or not, cause I'm planning to by an V. 15mm Heliar for my R-D1.

Which one would you buy?
Or maybe no one?

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards,

Miguel

I have the 15mm finder for my heliar but almost never use it due to worry that I may damage it or the hot shoe on my travels. With post processing and 15mm of angle I've not really had any composition issues
I would say that if you intend to use a finder , use the one matched to the lens rather than the camera's sensor size and compose within the frame lines.

If it were me, I would just use one of my existing 21mm finders.

If I had no existing finder, I would probably buy the 15D finder and use that as a 21mm for film.

I use a 21D finder with a 21SA on the R-D1 and it's really nice.

I couldn't compose accurately without it. I kept ruining shots by chopping off heads and feet.

I imagine the 15mm would be even harder to compose with accurately.

Not much if any difference between the two. Get what is available at a reasonable price. These are little fragile optics mounted in a very vulnerable place on the camera. They get binged up easily and yet have no impact on image quality. Some folks spend a fortune on Externals. I can't see any reason to.

from what I understand the 15D is approx 23mm, so youre only gaining 2mm over the 21mm. So it seems that their isnt really much of a difference. Especially if you already own one over the other...

Thank you very much !!!

NO, I don't have any of them...

And that's the reason in thinking about them... because they're a bit pricey...

Thanks again.

Any other opinion ? :D

No diff at all. Same stuff.

And believe it or not, the Zeiss 18mm finder is exactly the same as the 21mm finder. Just goes to show.

Im using still my Heliar 15mm - however I have sold the D viewfinder since you dont really need this for shooting. Im guessing the framelines always and this, most of the time, works out for me.

However I am using the 21 D viewfinder with my 21mm lens.

cheers

15D should have an effective 24mm view, which is what the 15mm Heliar on an R-D1 would be in theory. The 21mm viewfinder would make "more sense" with an M8, where the 15mm Heliar would have an effective 20mm crop.

Since none are "exactly perfect" framing-wise, a few millimeters shouldn't matter much.

I use the CV 21mm Viewfinder for my 15mm Heliar in the R-D1s and I can tell you it helps a lot (due to the crop factor). Bright and clear as hell and tough, very tough. Now, with the Bessa L it might not be necessary.

But I must admit that I exchanged my 15mm viewfinder for a friend's 21mm. I wouldn't have never paid the crazy price they ask for these externals.
