After doing my homework looking at the various 21mm out there I decided on the VC 21mmP M-mount (thanks Shay) and VC 21 finder (thanks Igor). Since the 35mm Lux is my 80% go to lens I didnt want to throw down large on a lens that might just sit in the bag. Im impressed as the 21mmP is very well constructed and I hope to use it alot.

My travel kit includes two Leica M's, 21mm, 35 Summilux asp. For a third lens to take Im looking at 90mm APO or 50/2.0 Zeiss.

My 21mm has the tiny VC lens hood. Anybody have any suggestions for a better hood?

Thanks all.

EDIT: Tom A. thanks for your suggestion on this lens meeting my criteria

Good lens. Here is the right hood (CV LH-1):

Yes, it's called the LH-1 and it's made by Voigtlander.

I don't have it and have found the small screw-on hood to be very good. Not a lot of flaring but I don't tend to shoot right into the sun. I want the LH-1 but I just haven't picked it up yet.

I have several of the 21f4's (don't ask!). The LH-1 hood is nice, but I find it a bit bulky and tend to favor the screw-in hood instead. The P-mount version has the advantage of being slightly larger in diameter. This means you can use standard 39mm filters with it as the can be used. With the LTM version you have to screw the hood into the filter and they can vignett.
The 21f4 P is a superb lens - small enough to go along in a pocket, but certainly no slouch when it comes to performance. It has less distorsion than the 21f2.8 Asph Elmarit - and is only one stop slower. So, the 21f4.5 C Biogon is better when it comes to "straight lines" but unless you shoot a lot of architectural stuff - you will never know!

I'm liking mine a lot too -- absolutely no complaints with it as it does a wonderful job for my purposes: shooting at crowded, festive events. It will flare if the sun is right in the frame (example below), but that's to be expected. I've been using the LH-1 hood, but it does make it much bulkier, so I should give it an extended try with just the small circular hood and see how much of a difference it makes.

make sure you test your copy at the outset and check to sharp corners. If you have one or more corner appreciably worse than the others exchange it. This is not a rare thing.

What a great shot!

I have this lens and love it on the R4M. I use the stock screw on hood without any trouble. Here is a shot with it on my R4M:

Hello, Roland - have you any comments related to external viewfinder?
All best,
Vlad.

Hi Vlad,

it's pretty good, and not expensive (compared to Zeiss or Leica finders). Coverage is a little less than with the Leica finder.

Good to hear from you. Cheers,

Roland.
