21st 6x7 frame on 220 on GF670?

Hello, I just received the first processed rolls from the lab. I shot mostly Velvia 100 220’s at 6x7 on my new Fuji Gf670, which I love. I noticed that every roll ends with a blank that’s definitely wide enough for another shot. Is that true for 220 roll film generally? Is there any way to trick or hack the camera into taking a 21st shot? In fact it seems to me if the frames were spaced slightly closer together it would fit even a 22nd 6x7 shot.

220 is almost extinct and it’s a rather moot point to begin, but I’m curious.

I do not know this camera, but maybe if you figure out how many turns of the film advance knob it takes per frame then you can advance it that much after the last frame. There is often some wasted space on 120/220 films and on manual cameras it might be possible to take advantage of that by adjusting the start point when loading the film. The Pentacon Six TL for example will give you 13 frames on a 120 roll if you start exposing on frame zero.

An innovative camera repairman might find a way to fiddle the frame counter mechanism... I think in modern cameras it's a built-in limitation. The early Pentax 67 (non-MLU) cameras allowed 21 exp on 220 while the MLU version allowed only 20, then back to 21 with the P67II. The Pentax 645NII shot 32 exposures or 33, user's option, with changed frame spacing being the difference. The Fuji GS645 shoots 30 exp while the later GA645 does 32, as does the Bronica RF645.

Thank you. Today I figured out that it is possible to override the shutter lock by pressing the release button for a second time firmly. So I can wind the film pass shot 20 and still take another shot. Tried this and will see what happens.

Of course the override can also be used to do multiple exposures.

I would not mess with a GF670 for just an extra frame of film per roll of 220. That is one expensive and precious camera. Not worth it!

Unless of course as always seems to be the case ( with me anyways ) that may be the shot you really want ! Besides isn't that the reason for 220 , to get the extra shot(s) ? 🙂 Peter

There is no need to mess with the camera mechanically. Pressing twice to override shutter lock just works. You can do multi exposures with it, or just it to get a freebie 21st shot.

I recently bought a bunch of Velvia 220 rolls in Japan. Expiring 2019 and 2020. I think they may be the last batches. You can get them on eBay too but at a premium.

Actually you just need to press firmly (not twice) to force the GF670’s leaf shutters to open when they are locked.
