Anyone out there with this lens? I've just used this for the first time and the lens shade moves on the lens after it's been clipped on. Moves forward and backward very slightly- not in danger of falling off but just does not seem normal for a Leica lens.

If anyone has had any experience with this problem please let me know. BTW- according to the serial # it's from 1997.

Push it in

Push it in

You have to push it ALL the way in so that it goes in firmly and there's no play with the hood.

To do this, you have to make sure that the dot on the hood is perfectly aligned with the notch on the lens. This will allow the hood to slide all the way in.

If you don't do this, the hood will be loose and the worst thing that could happen is that you grab the lens by the hood but the lens slides out and falls to the ground. Wouldn't want that to happen now, would we?

I got a 24mm a few weeks ago. I didn't notice until I tried just then and there is a slight back-and-forward movement.

I do this and it is firmly on, but there is still some play 🙁

Just to check... is there a filter on the lens? I've noticed that the hood goes on with a bit of difficulty with a filter unless a thin mount.

Mine has the smallest amount of normal play, but not any thing to think about and firmly on once its mounted correctly.

No filter is on the lens and the hood has locked on, but still there is a bit of 'play'. This is not something I've found on any other lens with a hood.

I've never used the Leica hood. The day I bought the lens I also bought a 55mm wide-angle lens hood from eBay dealer heavystar. It just screws into the filter. No vignetting.

It's not the vignetting...

It's not the vignetting...

...It's the viewfinder blockage. That's why Leica provides its own hood with the hole, although I must say that it's not one of their better designs as there's no lock for this hood (unlike the 35/1.4 ASPH hood), so if you grasp the hood by the sides and press the buttons accidentally, the hood will release.

I understand that there is no vignetting with the Leica hood. I was not clear enough in my post - what I meant was that the heavystar hood does not vignette - a question that might be raised because it is a round screw-in. It also blocks the VF less than the Leica hood. 🙂
