long shot maybe...

anyone try the cv AND the zeiss 25mm finders?
i know from reading that the zeiss is supposed to be phenominal but so is the cost.
the cv is more budget friendly.

i have been shooting the zm 25 w/o a finder but i'm thinking that maybe i should get one.
the cv 21 finder is very nice and so far has not been a hassle to use.

comments/opinions welcomed.

I use the CV 25mm finder. No problems with it and it works well with my glasses on or off.

Hi Joe,
Can't help on the Z, but I use the new type CV brightline 25 on an R2a. Seems very bright to me. There is space all around the exterior of the frame lines. Fast to use and I wear glasses.
Regards, Gerry

I've tried both, and both the 25 lenses... In the end I've kept the CV lens, and the ZM finder; Kim has the other halves.

The ZM finder is slightly brighter and straighter, but there's not much in it. I really kept it because it has the 28 frame as well; one finder, two jobs.

I can't compare the CV viewfinder with the Zeiss finder, but the CV is significantly brighter than a good Canon P viewfinder, a CLA'd M4 viewfinder, or a Olympus OM2 SLR viewfinder with a f/1.7 lens. I'd think if the Zeiss finder was brighter still, I'd need sunglasses!

🙂 There's certainly not a lot in it. But it does light up the room.

And just as an aside, you should try an OM1/2 with a modified 2 series screen and an f/1.2 lens. 😎

My Leica 24mm came with a Leica 24mm finder which is rubbish. I got a CV 25mm from Rich Pinto for $75 new. I think he still has them. The CV is an excellent finder but I haven't seen the Zeiss.

Hi Joe,

I've got the CV 25mm finder and I've peered through the Zeiss 25/28 finder. It's apples and oranges. The CV finder is excellent, but the Zeiss finder is stunning: build quality is very robust, it just sucks in light and it's incredibly crisp and well-corrected. Tom Abrahamsson, whose finder it was, says that they are the best finders ever made period. For the price that they sell for, so they should be. Unless you have lots of money burning a hole in your pocket, I would probably got for the CV finder. You'd be in love with the Zeiss one, but the CV one will serve you very well.

andrew, on what camera?

when using the zi, i'm starting to wonder if the whole internal finder is more than the 25 fov. just wondering if you have compared that to the external finders fov.
