25mm ZM - To Filter or Not?

I've just received my new (to me) 25mm Biogon. Ordinarily I would stick a skylight filter straight onto a lens however, I wondered if there are any opinions on possible reasons not to with a wider angle lens like this. I'd really appreciate any comments or guidance you guys might have on this. Similarly, if a filter won't detract from performance, are there superior performers on the market to Leica? All comments most welcome! Peter

bah, dont worry about it, stick a filter on the end and be done with it, many will say you shouldn't because it takes away from image quality and what not, yeah....well....scratching the front element of a lens will do that too and sooner or later you will have to clean the thing, I would much rather clean a filter then a front lens element.


BTW, I use b+w, heliopan and Hoya filters (the good multicoated ones) with great success and can rest assured that my lens element is protected from that occasional flying something.

I use a B+W UV on mine all the time with no problems.

I value my images more than my lenses....

If you only use multi-coated filters and also use a lens hood all the time, then maybe you won't see any flare in your images. And I'd take a cheap multi-coated hoya, or other, over a non MC B+W any day. B+W MRC is about perfect($$).
