Hi,

I recently bought a Minolta CLE with a 40mm lens on Ebay and am now thinking about my options for a 28mm lens. The 28mm Color Skopar looks very promising. I just wonder if the LH-1 hood will block the viewfinder because it seems to be rather large. Has anyone of you tried this combination?

Thanks,
Stefan

It will block the SE quarter of the viewfinder, on the CLE as well as on any M.

Unless you use a grip and want to avoid getting your fingers in the picture, I don't think the LH-1 is required, the 28/3.5 is very flare resistant. If you use a filter, just use a good, multi-coated one.

Best,

Roland.

Yes and if I remember correctly (as I only tried it on the shop) it also blocked the rangefinder window. Ferider is correct however it is a flare resistant lens so you generally wont need a hood and it keeps things compact on the CLE with the small built in one as well.

Remember if your just using the lens on a CLE to use a 35/135 adapter so to just see the 28mm framelines. If you use a 28/90 adapter you will get the 90mm framelines appear as well but probably the better choice if you using the lens on an M or Ikon as well and you just have to put up with the 90mm framelines at the same time.

I know the lens is flare-resistant, but it's not flare-proof. I used mine quite a bit on a recent trip, and was dismayed to see some flare on a few shots. So if one were going to use a hood (other than the little hood that comes w/ the lens), what would you guys recommend?

I always like having 90mm framelines with a 28 for 1/3rd compositions, Joel

Fortunately they are only tiny corner framelines that they dont get too much in the way so I can see how you may use them as a compositional aid.

Hmmm you must have had the sun pretty close to the frame for it to do that which in most cases a hood wont help much. I never did bother with a secondary hood for mine, I do however prefer to use the Rokkor 28 instead these days and its reversible vented hood doesnt block much. There is a generic vented hood for 35mm lenses out there with 39mm thread, you may be lucky that it will cover a 28 without vignetting

Thank you guys for the quick responses! I did not know that it's possible to select only the 28mm frame lines with a 35mm M adapter. That is a good thing to know when buying an adapter.

The Rokkor 28 would certainly serve me as well as the Skopar (if not better). I just could not find a reasonable offer right now and I am eager to take some photos. :)
