28/50/35 lens choice for M9

I picked up a Voigtlander 50 1.5 M mount version from ebay. Very disappointed, the lens is unusable because of focus shift. Nothing is in focus.

Now, I have 35/3/5 summaron, elmar-m 50/2.8 and 600-800 cash. Which lens do you guys suggest that I should go to? I just sold 35/2 (eight element) and elmar 50/3.5. I am familiar with 28, 35 and 50 lens.

never had focus issues with the 50/1.5

i might suggest that either the lens needs adjustment or your rangefinder does

I have the Voigtlander 50/1.5 LTM and have no issues, a great lens.

If you are looking for something in the 600 - 800 price range you may want to check out the Zeiss 50/2 Planar, it does have great reviews from those who use it and costs $860.00 new.

I would suggest it may be best to get the lens checked out. Because that 1.5 design shouldn't have focus shift issues to begin with.

Otherwise, have a look at the Rokkor 28/2.8?

For low light I use superspeed at 35 and 50, but they are heavy.

There are 50mm lenses very famous for having focus shift and the Nokton isn't one of them. Maybe it would be worth doing some tests, because if "Nothing is in focus" it's a different problem.

I already returned the lens. I use 35/3.5 and 50/2.8 on M9, no problem with focus ever experienced.

I was about to reply, keep that 50mm Elmar-M; it's a great lens.

Yea, it is amazingly good built and is reasonably sharp. It is a keeper.

Focus shift or misfocus or out of focus? Focus shift is related to the aperture, the focus plane shifts as one stops down. If focus is in another plane than the rangefinder without changing aperture, the lens (or camera) needs adjustment. If nothing is in focus the lens probably has a loose or dislocated element.

I figured it out. It is the lens. I returned it and got another copy. everything works. it is perfect for me.
