Does anyone use this lens?
How are the results?
I am interested in purchasing a new wide, and I like a vintage look. Pictures would be great too. Do you have any other suggestions? I don't know much about the wides.

Bump for an interesting thread.....rare lens, even rarer shade for it. Anybody?

Used one for a couple of days about forty years ago. Disappointing.

never tried it, but if you've got one, maybe you could send it to me for a 28mm lens test!

for a classic look, your best bet is a canon 2.8 or 3.5.

I've used one enough to know that it works:

The IR filter covers up the aperture selector so I've not used it much for colour (but think pastel). For mono it does the job nicely. I mean, buying one of these and complaining about the speed or the resolution doesn't make sense, right?

I really like you photo on the end there. The size of this lens makes it seem like a nice one to use.

VC 28mm f=3.5
VC 28mm f=3.5
Hi Matt: Don't overlook the VC 28mm 3.5. It's doesn't yield exactly a vintage look (somewhere between the early coated Leitz lenses of the '50's and more current glass), but it is tiny, build quality is really quite good, matches the Barnack aesthetic very well, and gives a lot of bang for the buck price wise. And the metal 28mm VC 1:1 finder is first rate also.
Best, David

Thanks for the compliment.
As others have said, there are other lenses that are more practical, and certainly others that are cheaper (but my perfect condition version was not a bad price - cheaper than any in-production Leica lens in a similar state, for example).
When I started investigating, I was surprised at how few vintage 28mm lenses were around. This was *really* wide back then. It depends on how convinced that you are that you want the vintage look. I have a middle aged Canon 28mm which is a lot easier to use, and possibly has a higher resolution, but whose results are less immediately appealing to me.
