28 Summicron ASPH on a CLE??

isn't this like putting slick racing tires on a Nova automobile?

Not at all...the CLE is an exceptional piece of equipment as is the leica 28 asph. They compliment each other extremely well. Now if you put the asph on an instamatic...that would be slicks on a Nova. What some people do not understand is the quality of the CLE...I have two in constant use, neither of which experiences any problems whatsoever...after 25 or so years...which equals leica quality levels, with capabilities you won't find in most leicas. I've lived with both and I favor my CLE's, although I prefer them with Leica lenses...except for the 40 rokkor.

MP/CLE is right, also the CLE has one of the best viewfinder/framelines for 28mm lenses second only to one other camera as it isnt a Leica!

funny, the rokkor 28mm is not one of those lenses bantered about when talking about 28mm --- might have to get one as it's a lot cheaper than the elmarit and will give me a few extra stops compared with my canon 28/3.5

This lens is often overlooked because of the white spot problem and because it was quite expensive in the past but prices have now dropped and it can be had quite cheaply. It is as good as the version 3 Elmarit and more compact to boot. It will however bring up the 35mm framelines on Leicas which would be annoying for some.

is it a good lens

I accidentally bought the 28mm new, it was in the 40mm box, mis-packed by Minolta?

I used it with the CL for a couple of years, and using the entire frame, it seemed to do well. No complaints. I wanted to use it on other M mounts, but it did not bring up the 28mm frame line plus the required modification, I was told, required adding on to the lug and then filing it to the right setting, so this was a strike against it. I did not know anyone who was doing that modification at that time.

I think the value peaked at a pretty good buck, but I left it for a few years, and when I discovered it was full of white measles, I traded it to someone who was selling it for parts.

As a shooter on the CL it was fine, I do not know if the spots can be cleaned, or exactly why they grew there in the first place, there are few mushrooms in the camera drawers. I know more repair folks today and would probably have shipped it off now for at least an estimate, as it is a focal length I do not have in Leica mount.
