Good Morning to you all

I've just been doing a search but there are none too many 28 Lux's out there I guess and it's a costly beauty. Wondering if anyone has an impression of this lens and any pics, I'd be interested.🙂

One of my best friends out here in Thailand has a 28mm summilux, it is by far my favorite lens that I have ever used. I love 28mm lenses and I have a beaten up 28mm Elmarit V3 that is "OK", but since using my friends summilux, I have never looked at my Elmarit the same.

edit…. I was with Kristian (the link above) for many of those photos that are in his review, he really used that lens to its full potential. I just "played" around with it.

edit #2, free roll of film if you can spot me in the 2 wedding shots with the sparklers in the link to Kristian's review….haha

Haha! I'll have a look. Thankyou for posting the photos. I love the focal length. A 28 and 50 work for me.

the pictures seem to have a strong green cast on my ipad. anyone else seeing that? is it the typical m9 color shift?

sorry, but not sure what pictures you mean. Kristian used an M (240) and I used Kodak Pro Image iso 100 (film).

Not sure if that information helps because you might be looking at somebody else's photos.

cheers, michael

Michael what did you like about the lens, did it render very differently to your Elmarit? Thanks🙂

There are a couple of things I like about the 28mm summilux. the speed of 1.4 vs 2.8 is important for me because I mainly shoot iso 100 film. The colors seem a lot "richer" and the sharpness is noticeable (at least to me). I also like the way it renders at 1.4. All in all, it is a lens with a lot more modern optics than what I have.

Here are some from Myanmar. I was going there with one of my friends who has a 28mm summilux and his passport wasn't valid for the required 6 months, so the airport wouldn't let him fly. I asked him at the airport if I could take his 28mm summilux with me and he said yes. It was the only lens that I used on that trip.

Your travel photos are always very good, Michael, and you have a consistent and recognisable style. Do you find any advantage from the 28mm field of view over your more usual 35mm or did you find yourself just going in closer to get the same kind of composition?

Thanks a lot Ian, I appreciate that. I used to use the 28mm (Emarit v3) for years before I had a 35mm lens. Once I got the VC 35mm 1.2 it sort of changed things up for me. Honestly I prefer a 28mm/50mm combo but for the last 9 years, a fast 35mm lens has been my most used lens.

When I use a 28mm, I try to 'stuff' more information into the frame. When I'm using a 35mm I tend to 'cut stuff' out of my frame. IMHO a 28mm is more difficult to use but the results can be worth it. I try to tell myself to just take a couple of steps back and my 35mm will be a 28mm, but it doesn't really work for me. I can tell the difference.

Thanks again.
Cheers, Michael
