I was just given an Olympus OM-1 with an Osawa 28mm f2.8 lens. Is the lens any good? i haven't had time to run some film through the camera.

While I don't have that particular lens, I do have one 28mm f/2.8 in OM mount with my name on it.
It is a good lens.
Try it and see for yourself if you like it.
No amount of others opinions will tell you if you like it or not until you try it for yourself even if that lens is considered so and so on the MTF and other chart tests.
In the end it is the picture that count.

I think Oaawa had some connection with Mamiya. I think they were the distributors. I have an Osawa filter on one of my lenses and when I bought it was told they were fom Mamiya. The filter is excellent quality so if that's anything to go by your lens may be pretty good. Look forward to seeing some results.

Osawa was a trading company who served as Mamiya's oversea distributor. It filed for bankruptcy once in 1984 which contributed a lot to Mamiya's abandoning of its 35mm line.
This lens (marked as Osawa MC 28mm f/2.8) has a diagram of 6/6, available in many mounts. According to some sources it's built by Toyo Optics. Not as good as Mamiya's Auto-Sekor 28/2.8E (a sophisticated 8/7), but as a proven design it's not bad either. Doesn't have CRC though so beware when shooting up close.

I had the same lens but for Minolta MD. I sold it as it produced green-yellow pictures compared to my rokkor lens. On Canon 500D it had a lot of chroma abberations .

Attended the Mamiya bankruptcy sale here in Toronto way back when, and bought the Osawa 28 2.8, 70~150 3.5, 2x tele-converter all in Nikon mount and a bunch of the Mamiya point and shoot cameras for friends & family.
A pro photobud said for what I paid they were good enough to learn on, but when I got more discerning I'd not be satisfied with the shots they produced. He was right, and a few years later I sold them both for better lenses.

I have the Osawa MC 24mm/2.8, and it's just (barely) OK optically and mechanically. Given the fact that the Olympus OM Zuiko 28mm 2.8 and 3.5's are so inexpensive and good, I'd donate the Osawa to Goodwill and get one of those. I especially like the 3.5 version.
