I have a ZM and very happy with it.

My favorite travel camera is the Nikon FM3A with a 35~70mm f3.3~4.5 zoom...with a Nikkor 1.4X extender in my pocket.

The ZM could displace the Nikon if I could find a 2X extender to use with my only lens...the CV 40mm f1.4 Nokton modified for the 35mm frame line.

I would even buy a new CV 35mm f1.4...so that I would then have a 70mm f2.8 equivalent. I could live with using the 85mm frame line for either case...assuming the extender would automatically kick it up.

[I have already found a LTM 2X extender made by Komura on eBay. It is supplied with an external viewfinder.]

Any suggestions?

Framing at the doubled focal length will be tricky. Besides, some loss of optical quality is inevitable.

I was hoping that a clever manual focal length selection feature could be incorporated in it, or could be used in a RF camera without automatic frame line such as the RD-1.

I imagine the Komura LTM version uses any M-mount adapter. If your favourite prime lens is a 25mm, then a 50mm M adapter can be screwed into the male end of the extender... If my prime lens is 35mm, I will then screw in a 75 or 85 or 90mm adapter...I would even buy the Megapearl 1.33X eyepiece magnifier along with it.

[The Leica tri-Elmer pricing is simply obscene...and you still have to buy an eyepiece magnifier.]

I know an extender would degrade image quality somewhat...but not more than doubling the enlargements in a darkroom or "digital crop" of the center portion of the image.

I was spoiled by my one lens (plus extender) FM3A travel outfit. We all live in Compromise if not Hope.
