Ok, couple of days ago I put an add where I was selling my Leicas away, but decided to postpone the selling. I looked for the serial numbers from that site --> http://members.aol.com/dcolucci/a.htm and based on the serial number on the lens (2329xxx) there are two options; this is either

-35 Summicron F2 Type 2 (S7) $ 675 2,316,000 - 2,874,000
-35 Summicron F2 Type 3 (E39) $ 725 2,316,000 - 2,874,000

Which version this is? What is the difference between those two versions?

I am sending this to CLA in near future and I'm planning to trade it for 50mm lens or possibly sell this and my M2 body. What about the price for the lens after service? The lens shows normal wear and tear and the glasses are about 98,7% clean = no scratches or anything like that, but when looked through the lens in a right angle you can see that something has touched the rear glass on it's lifetime. In my add I asked around 410 USD for the lens in this present condition (the focusing is little stiff at the moment) and if that price guide is up do date I could ask maybe 550-700 USD after the service?

And what about M2 and it's leather coverings -- does the price go up or down if I replace the leather (normal black leather from aki Asahi)? The original vulcanite is worn out and few pieces missing here and there.

Well, at the top of that page it says that all prices are based on excellent, but used condition lenses...

Prices are the approximate amount one should expect to pay for a Leica-M lens in excellent, but used, condition. Glass and body should be clean and without scratches or marks. Hoods, boxes, caps and finer condition will all add to price. Leica lenses can and do vary widely in price depending on exact condition, serial # and pedigree. Pricing was gathered from sales on photo.net, ebay auctions, Tamarkin auctions, the LUG, and camera dealers. Prices biased towards ebay auctions and private sales on photo.net. Expect to pay 10 to 20% more directly from a dealer. UPDATED 05/15/06

I'd definitely say your lens is in user condition, so I doubt you're going to see that sell near the high end, even with a CLA. I could be wrong, though. Who are you going to send it to?

I just bought one on ebay and I think they are going toward the high side of that estimate.

Do a search on ebay for completed auctions to see what they really go for.

Sorry, don't mean to trivialize, you should be able to tell from the filter
size if you have filters.

Ok, then this is version 3 because it has 39mm b+w uv-filter on it. I am not familiar with different types of summicrons etc... and not so interested either. I just take pictures 🙂

That is something I haven't figure out how to do.. How do I search for completed auctions on ebay?!

Do a search on 35mm summicron and then you will see a box about midway down the left side of the page called "Search Options". Within this box is a checkbox for "completed listings". Check that and submit and it will show only completed listings.

I think you'll find that used summicrons go for substantially more than you think however I'd consider the fellow forum members offer to buy it without the CLA for the price you mentioned just to avoid the hassle of ebaying if you think the price is fair.

I always also check KEH since ebay prices have such a variation
and KEH prices are good. Probably your lens is in "BGN" condition
or better.

I read those descriptions and I would label this as a good "bgn".
