Brian, Just saw one of these on the bay sell for $1,050, nearly twice the lens guide price. Is there a better performing 35mm ltm for "we of modest means? Maybe it went to a collector. the "book"said it was only an "average"lens. I for one always look for a bargain that's why I have some canon lenses (2) but mostly go for the russian glass (7) and one Minolta 45mm . What are ,in your opinion ,some of the other under priced gems out there
 
yeah Raid, that's the one I have, the 2.8. Seems to work very well for me as it seems pretty hard for this writer to gather up $800+ worth of curiosity about it- - even if it is a Canon the high cost just blows me away.
 
There were a few of these that passed through the RFF classifieds recently at very reasonable prices. If you are patient, you will probably find a bargain.

This is still the fastest 35mm for LTM. The 35mm f/1.8 is your best bet for a low cost LTM lens in this focal length. The 35mm f/2 is excellent. One of the best.

I was patiently waiting for a bargain 35mm Lux pre-ASPH and after a 35 Lux dry spell for about a month, I went and bought one. Here we are a few weeks later and there have been 3 or 4 of the same lens in the RFF classifieds that are selling for LESS than what I got my lens for (and these come with hood, caps, box). Needless to say I'm a bit irked about my lack of patience to wait another two weeks.

Unless you absolutely love the signature of Canon 35/1.5, I dont see why not just get a CV 35/1.7 ULTRON. - a much better lens IMO.
 
Second the advice on the 35/1.7 Ultron. The latter is multicoated, in terms of "T" stop- not much difference between the Ultron and the Canon. I also have the Canon 35/2, but usually go with the Ultron.
 
The collectability and the feel to have a "classic" lens drives up the prices of Nikon and Canon RF lenses. I sold my Canon 28/3.5 here at RFF for around $200 because I already have two other 28mm lenses. I went for practicality. The Rokkor 28/2.8 is faster, and the Kobalux 28/3.5 gives a different look. I kept the Canon 35mm/2.8 though.
 
I have two Summicron 35/2 Version 1 lenses, so there really is no need for another 35mm lens. It is simply the joy of having many options for using that makes me keep them all.

I had a Canon 35 f1.5 for about a month - mint- and with the correct filter / hood and leather case. Didn't really like the way it rendered, and the fall-off in the corners is significant IMO.

Swapped it for a v4 35 Summicron and never regretted it from a performance standpoint.

I would like to find a good Canon 25mm that had undamaged glass (and that I could afford) - would be a great combo with my Leica I. Last good one I saw was $500+, which seems far too much to me.
