Dear all,
a couple of days ago I took possession of a Canon L2 in nice condition (slow speeds need some love, but that's a minor issue) and I am smitten. What a great little camera for street photography!
Now, I find the built-in 35mm viewfinder to be .... usable, and it will certainly even get a bit better especially at the edges once I went inside and (carefully) cleaned the accessible optics. But I want to add an external 35mm viewfinder, so that I can permanently leave the the built-in finder in its gloriously easy to focus RF mode.
I'm aware that I would have to remove the "parallax nobbin" ;-) if I were to use a third party finder with a flat foot. In this case I'd go for a used 35mm VC metal finder, and would have to correct for vertical parallax mentally.
Or, I could of course source a Canon V series viewfinder with swivel mechanism und coupling for the L2's parallax compensator. My question, after having seemingly read all the available info: what is the magnification of the original Canon auto-parallax viewfinder? I'm aware it is not a bright-line finder with space around the 35mm area, but a tunnel style finder just like the built-in finder. I can live with that, but before I plunk down 100 plus Euro to find one in decent shape including shipping to Europe: how does it compare to the L2's built-in- finder in terms of brightness and, more importantly, magnification?
