35mm f2.0 For $350?

You see a lot of quotes for the cost of Canon RF lenses way below what they actually sell for. I think those quotes come from people who don't own Canon RF lenses.

that 35/2 has a great rep. if you look at the 28/3.5 (also on ebay)it's about 200 bucks less. it has a so-so rep.

and if i am in any way responsible for the increase in canon resale value, i'm gonna cry cause i was looking at that lens too!

too expensive for a clearly not mint lens, IMHO ! I paid 450 USD INCLUDING a very nice Canon-7 !
The white digits starts to gilb, and it lacks the orginal rear cap (the riffled black plastic rear cap which is easiest to put on/off).
The "normal" price for a 2/35 (incl. caps, mint-excellent) is around 250.
My oppionion to this lens is here: http://www.taunusreiter.de/Cameras/Canon_RF.html#CANON_RF_2-35mm

cheers Frank

i agree that it's too much money.

i'm wondering, with all the new rf cameras coming out, if prices on this old stuff will go up or come down.
obviously i'm hoping it heads south.
i know i feel torn between another canon 'p' or a vi or maybe moving on to that bessa r3a. i like the 1:1 finder and new is always nice.

A Canon 35f/2 for $350? Seems about right to me. Have you checked the price of any version of the Leica 35/2 Summicron-M lately, let alone any LTM version? The Canon 35/2 is superior, in my opinion, to the 35/2 Summicron first version (and they go for $1500), and yes I've had both. The Canon 35/2 is equal to the second or third version Summicron, and they start at about two times $350 for an ex+ copy. I think it's a case of people starting to wake up to the high cost of older Leica lenses that don't really outsine their Canon or Nikon counterpart. Their optical characteristics may be slightly different, but that's what makes it all so interesting. My Canon 35/2 in LTM is one of my favorite 35mm lenses, even over my Leica 3rd version Summicron, plus I can use it on any LTM or M rangefinder camera I own.

welcome to our new member, glad to have you on board.

i can't really agrue with you about the relative bargain canon lenses have been but untill recently they were even more so of a bargain. i just wish they would remain so.

Welcome, neighbor d30gaijin! I've had a 1st version 35 'cron since new and like its look a lot. But I can't really compare it head-to-head against other RF 35's. Come to think of it, I do have another 35, the Jupiter-12, but I haven't used it all that much.

Welcome d30 ! 🙂 I was looking for this Canon lens myself a while ago but gave up mainly as I realized it always went out of my budget.

However, I managed to find a good deal on a CV 35 Pancake I (thankx to Plexi here 🙂 ). That lens has proved to be all I wanted in a 35, but of course your mileage may vary.

I'm still curious about testing a 35/2 Canon, but then there's that new CV 40/1.4 out there... 🙄

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the very nice welcome. It is much appreciated.

Joe,

I agree that Canon lenses were a really good bargain before the recent price hikes they seem to be going through. Not too long ago I picked up a Canon LTM 50/1.8 in near new condition (early version) at a local camera store for $30. I just saw one go on that auction site for $140 something. Amazing!

Doug,

The 1st version ‘cron does have a nice look to it, a little low on contrast that some find very attractive for certain situations. I too have (recently acquired) a Jupiter 12 35/2.8 but have only shot one roll with it, and that being print film. I can’t really evaluate it to any degree because I didn’t get any prints made, rather I just had the photo lab scan the negatives to a CD, but the scan job wasn’t all that great. It now resides on my M2 with a roll of Elite Chrome 100G in it but I haven’t been out to shoot anything with it yet.

I moved to Idaho from Washington (Tri-Cities), but that was back in 1981.

Taffer.

I haven’t had the opportunity to use or see (1st hand) results from the CV 35 pancake but I hear very good things about them. Ah yes, the CV 40/1.4, what a bargain! I put my $50 deposit down for one with Stephen Gandy shortly after word got out and he posted info on his web site. If it’s anywhere near as good as the other CV lenses it will be one heck of a buy at $349.

Again, thank you all for the nice welcome. This seems like a friendly forum, and that's nice for a change compared to the bickering and personal attacks I've witnessed on other forums.

Don
