35mm framelines

Hello all,

I currently own a Bessa R3A. However, I feel I prefer 35mm to 40mm lenses.

Can people please make recommendations for LTM cameras with 35mm and 50mm frame lines?

The reason I'm not just going for an R2A is I would like to release some cash.

As an aside can people explain why 35mm FSU LTM lenses are available, but to my knowledge, no cameras with suitable frame lines?

I recommend the Canon P with 35mm framelines and 1:1 finder. If you want to use a Jupiter 12, not all will fit though. Then again, there is a plentyful supply of other good 35mm lenses, the Canon 35/2.8, the Nikkor 35/2.5, the Ultron 35/1.7 or the Color Skopar 35/2.5, for instance.

I use canon P and canon 7 with nikkor 35mm 2.5 and it works very well. However, if you wear glasses, it will be harder for you to see the whole 35mm frame line with canon P due to the 1:1 viewfinder. IMO 35mm is easier to use on canon 7 but 50mm is better on the P. I am currently deciding between my P and 7 (don't have time to shoot both!) and am leaning towards P since I shoot 50mm and 105mm more than 35mm but it's there for me to use when I need.

I do have problems with the 40mm lines on the R3A so I'd imagine I'd have the same problem with 35mm on the Canon P.

I'll investigate the Canon 7. It's certainly a good looking Camera!

I use the Canon P and the entire 35mm framelines are hard for me to see. I don't wear glasses, but am left-eyed, so my nose has to fit behind the camera also.

I got an external 35mm finder and am happy with the combo.

There's a Canon VT in the CLDs. I had one many years back and I think it had 50/35 switchable finders. Is that right?

That is true. But I think the 35mm is the whole viewfinder with no parallelex compensation. I have not tried one myself but sure looks interesting.

If I'm reading CameraQuest correctly it looks like the VT doesn't have brightlines or parallax correction.

A shame because I'm hopeless without them!

For your last question: Leica had been making 3.5cm f/3.5 Elmars for their LTM cameras for years, yet none of the later has 35mm frame lines.

Another example: in 1953 Zeiss Ikon released the Biogon 21cm f/4.5 which was meant to be used on the Contax II. It took the industry another 50 years to finally produce a camera, the Bessa R4, that comes with built-in 21mm frame lines...

In that 50 years viewfinder camera shooters had to rely on the only solution: the external finders.

The Yashica YF has 50 and 90 lines in the finder, and some say you can use the entire frame for the 35. Haven't tried that yet as I don't have a 35, and the camera needs repair first.

Bessa R is the only one I know of with 35 & 50mm framelines in LTM. I love mine.
