35mm lenses

I have here a few results from using several 35mm lenses. Nothing special to report, but it is interesting to see the way each lens renders a portrait.

Raid, great test. Now, how did you bribe your daughter to become the subject?
As you say, not much difference between them, though my favorite has always been the 35mm f3.5 Planar! A bit slow, but sooo sharp and 'clean" looking negative. The old Biogon 35f2.8 does a credible job too - and build quality on that lens is second to none. Mine is a prewar version, heavy but nice "uncoated" look to it.

Thank you, Steve. Photography keeps memories alive. Dana's hair has been cut shorter, and she is one year older, but the photos bring back images ...
Having a beautiful family makes it difficult to get any credit for taking [occasionally] decent photos!

I noticed how sharp the Planar is. None of these lenses is mine, and credit goes to the RFF members who were kind enough to mail me their precious lenses.

Nice series of portraits. I like your tests (also in other threads) very much.
I was thinking about doing something comparable in the near future, since I have an uncoated 35mm elmar, a coated 35mm summaron (3.5) and a 35 summicron underway.

I am glad that some people view my lens comparisons useful. I believe they shed some light on the different lenses. Any information is better than no information.

Raid, what camera did you use to test the lenses? The Nikon lenses will be a bit off on a Contax. I shimmed a J-12 for a Nikon before, it improved the focus.

Is the Biogon pre-war or post-war? (African or European swallow?) I've added a nice Contax II to the flock, and will be looking for a pre-war biogon...

I hope the girls get to see Monsters vs Aliens and a Pizza for all this work!

Hi Brian,

These images were taken about a year ago. I still have images from these shoots that I have never posted before.
I may have used a Nikon RF camera with Nikkor lenses. The Biogon was an old pre-war version. I don't know anything about African or European or American or .... swallow. :D

Dana always got chocolate ...

As long as Lina and Dana don't know this little secret, I am better off. :cool:

I can hardly get either girl interested anymore in modeling for me. Maybe they are getting "wiser"?:bang::bang:
 
I had no idea how costly these lenses are! No surprise, as each of these lenses is superb in its own way. As Tom,has said, the Biogon is built like no other lens [in terms of quality built]. The Planar 35mm 3.5 is razor sharp.

I checked; I used a Bessa R2C and not a Nikon RF camera.

Raid, take my advice, children are my job,when you used Dana for testing lens , cameras ecc... use color film. It's more fun...
 
Hi Raid.

My preference in these lovely portraits is for those taken with the Biogon. It has a delicate rendering of the highlights and is less harsh than the more modern lenses.
