My scanners: Plustek 7600 for 35mm Epson V700 for 120mm
I know that the V700 does a good job with my medium format square negs using the Betterscanning holder. I've had lesser results with the Plustek and 35mm 400 asa film when making 13X19 prints. I'd like to bump up to 17X22. Is there something inherently more difficult with scanning 35mm on a modest scanner like the Plustek, or is it just my lack of skill? I'd like to dive back into shooting film but not the darkroom, so shoot, develop, then scan and print digitally. Seems like medium format and V700 would be the better option, both formats being of equal (and different) beauty in my mind.

The Plustek will out resolve the Epson, but the 35mm negative will need to be enlarged much more than the 120 negative for the same print size. That's why the Epson produces acceptable 120 scans: you aren't having to enlarge as much.

The Plustek is an excellent scanner, but there are inherent limitations to the 35mm format.

I was going to say good luck with that enlargement, but only last week I made an 8x10 crop from a shot from my Yashica GSN on PanF and gotta admit I was pleasantly surprised with the wet print, and I'm rather anal about sharpness!
