Just wondering what is the going rate on a chrome 1997 35mm summicron ASPH with box, hood, caps is right now? I was offered one for $1800 USD. is this overpriced or the going rate for these?

thanks

Thank you. no wonder its not selling at seller's price on CL. I think I've seen this listing for week 6

I think I've seen a few deals for as low as $1100 - 1200. Keep your eyes peeled if you are in the market and you'll get one sooner rather than later. As an aside, don't be afraid to haggle with camera stores. They usually have a bit of a mark up on lenses and have some wiggle room if you're serious.

Easy enough to check the recent ebay sold prices. I see that the latest silver one to sell was at $1890 on June 28th.

Yep I checked ebay too but as usual ebay is inflated and doesn't represent true value of the lens.

The age shouldn't/doesn't really matter so much. It's the condition, and mint versions, even without 6-bit coding go for $1800-2200. Less for lesser condition of course. If you consider the cost of the Summarit, these prices are appropriate as their new cost is $3k.

This is a chrome lens so the price of the regular version isn't relevant. The only comparison is the black paint version, you might want to check on those prices too. $1800 seems reasonable enough.

so if i understand this correctly. $1800 is an ok price but sometimes (very rare) there are deals to be had :)

On ebay about a year or two ago they were going for around 950-1100 dollars. I was very tempted then, the price sure has gone up. I regret not getting one, ended up with a version 3....

When I first took up Fly Fishing, I could have bought a Hardy Perfect reel for less than £60. I loved the design but thought they were too expensive.
Now they are fortunes even for a crappy old one.

When I first bought a Leica M, the 35 asph could easily be had for £600 in mint condition from Ffordes let alone on Ebay. You think I would have learned something by now. Nope! I thought they were too expensive and bought an Ultron and a bunch of lenses I didn't really need. I will probably never get one now.

back then i was happily shooting nikon and didn't see myself shooting leicas :) now that I am, prices didn't just go up, they surged.

I bought mine off eBay. It was a UK only auction and there were other bidders but my sniping software came up trumps :) The price was 1,000 GBP which translates to 1,500 USD. I hope Kully doesn't read this post as he was already accusing me of being a 'lens slut'!

These prices do fluctuate over time. I bought my BP version here on RFF a couple years ago. The price was $2K and I think I paid $1800 for it. About a year ago prices had come down, now they seem to be back up again. After I bought mine I never used my 35 Summilux ASPH again and eventually sold it, and I'm not interested in the new one either. My copy of the lens is just really good, and over the years I've gravitated to the modern brass lenses as I like the feel of them and the extra weight. Black paint or silver chrome I don't care but I think you pay a bit of a premium for the brass construction.

$1500

Which is what I paid a couple of months ago for a mint example.

I bought two a year ago for $1300 a pop - 1 black, 1 silver chrome. Two other offers at same price. Prices on eboy always jacked up, alot. Prices change depending where you buy.
