Hi,

I just noticed that the front part of my Summicron v3 turns around (aperture ring + everything in front). I noticed this yesterday when suddenly my aperture mark did not line up with the distance indicator and I just grabbed and turned the front element to face to the right direction. This doesn't however affect to the performance of the lense and lens still focuses properly (tested with M8, close and far focus is spot on), so this is a minor inconvenience to me.

So my questions are following:

- What is broken inside my Summicron? Some kind of problem with e.g. glue, or is there any screws or similar with which I could tighten the front barrell?
- What is the fix for this kind of symptom?
- How to disassemble this lens?

Thanks for your help!

And slight update: I removed the lens from the body and checked how it looks from the bayonet side and it seems like that the whole lens element is rotating in it's chamber. So I guess I have to get some spanner wrenches and just tighten the lens from behind?

That was going to be my suggestion. There are exceptions, but usually what common sense suggests is the thing to do.

Yay, I managed to tighten the construction from the backside and it seems to work. I also cleaned the focusing mechanism a bit (without dissassembling) it seems that the focusing mechanism has few glitches which makes focusing quite painful. I think I'll disassemble the lens and then clean the focusing mechanism and lubricate it and if this doesn't help, I'll deliver the lens for CLA to my local Leica repair shop. I'll post results after weekend ;)

I had no luck with the disassembly, so I called my local camera store which is official Leica importer and they have a Leica service center and they told me that they'll do a CLA for 39 euros (approx. 55 USD) so doing a CLA by myself doesn't make any sense as I'd still have to buy proper tools (approx. 100e) .

The guy also told me that it is possible that it will most probably cost me even less as I've been a regular customer with them for years. I should get the lens back by the end of next week, so turnaround time is not that bad :)

A CLA in Finland for 39 Euros? Wow...
