It's been out for more than 12 months. And why are people surprised that digital cameras go down in price quickly? They are essentially computers with rapidly expanding technology.

I just can't really understand who these cameras are marketed to. I just can't see any advantage over an iPhone 6, in fact the iPhone is more fun.
as great smartphone are they still can't beat APS-C sized sensor in a body with hardware buttons.
smartphones are handy and always somewhere near, this is what makes them so great.

I just need to share the fact that I'm quite proud of myself for resisting this.
I wanted an A when they were released but balked at the price. Since then I've moved on. However, the first round of sale pricing was very tempting. At $399 it is extremely tempting. But I'm staying strong!

Yeah, and I can't understand why someone would use an iPhone over one of these... I think it comes down to what you plan to do with the images.

Don't be... the GR is the better overall camera IMO.

Well yes and no,
They are going down in price so quickly because you have nervous manufacturers who attempt to make the biggest return on their investment within the first 3 months of introduction, liquidate after 12 months, and then introduce the next model and start the whole cycle over again.
The new products are at best marginally better than the previous model. The rest is pure and successful marketing hype designed to justify planned obsolescence.

what?
If they can make a profit selling them at $399, how stupid to enter the market at $1200 and stick it there so long.
Even more stupid to have done that if they are now taking a loss to dump inventory.

Yes, just like personal computers.

Who said they are making a profit?
The 6d look may just be too "boring" for want of a better description, for what I have in mind. The files I get from the iPhone on a slow pan are just so damned interesting.
Nothing wrong with using the iPhone then... I'm just saying, and I know you know better, that there are many reasons for using certain cameras. The only real criteria comes down to...does it work for you and your purpose.

Well, the price has made it officially into the "why not?" category. Unfortunately, that was not before making it into the "why?" category.
A great camera for sure, but sadly just a pass now.

After getting the Ricoh GR I checked one out.
The GR sparked my curiosity. I prefer the Ricoh.
Everything I have read is that output is very very similar.
The Ricoh just handles better and seems more responsive.
Great price though.

Cameras are not sold like oranges, you don't buy a case and hope they don't go rotten.
There is a system which, without going into detail, is based on an ever decreasing price from the first day pre-orders are taken -- to the end of its cycle closeout -- mixed in with complicated incentive structures.
The goal is to make money for everyone on the entire life cycle of the product, which as everyone who looks at financial statements from manufacturers knows, does not always end well. Many companies give away their merchandise to stay in business, sometimes for years.
I can't figure out if you are saying they are still making money or not...
