What's rare is an Electro GX that's black....whats even more rare is seeing one on ebay...there's 4 seperate auctions now for this amazing rangefinder!

People are just crazy. They pay premium not for chrome or black finish, but for either chrome or black - which is more rare for particular model. That's all psychology. Those who understand this and pay attention, may become rich. I'm not talking particularly about cameras.

when I see these numbers I think "collector" this camera seemed to be in top condition.

There is no way anyone who planned on using it would pay that when there are alternatives. Like a GSN. I know it's larger but if you are using and not collecting you have to be in a high snack bracket to put out that $$ when there are exceptional alternatives for less.

ill have to say that im one of those overseas bidders, though not on this specific camera.
its simply because for ~half the price i can get a RF from australia or america than i could here in new zealand.
not to mention that seeing as im after a canonet 17 they seem to be quite common on the bay, whereas the only one ive seen in the last couple of weeks over here was preyed on like a bleeding fish in a shark tank 😉

Crazy bidding.... seems not real bidders do.
I got both black and chrome GX both less than $180, both are charming though.
