What will M8 users do when the production of 2Gb cards will be stopped because of cost/price ratio?..
Today the price of 4 Gb SDHC is the same or even less than 2Gb a year ago...
I still see 256MB and 512MB cards, many years after they were dethroned as the "high capacity" cards, half a decade ago.
If we're going by theoreticals, what will happen to *all* users when China starts invading its neighbours, making all goods from the Pacific Rim hard to get?
Or a meteorite strikes?
Or G.W. in a drunken stupor presses the button and goes "whoops, my bad" on Russia?
I mean, the possibilities are endless

I think that it's more obvious that Leica should release a new firmware for SDHC cards.
If not, they are getting money from SD 2 Gb producers for they are still being sold due to M8

I have identified the problem..the built-in SD Card Reader on my Dell Laptop!..an external USB 2.0 Card Reader will read the card...It has been suggested that this could be something to do with the Dell hardware being only USB 1.0????
look here, maybe you'll find the answer http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=92526&messageID=1044048

Also had problems with a "Tomato" brand 4 Gb card. Screen said the SD card was full and would not format

I use extreme III 8GB SDHC in the G9, no problems. And since in another thread the G9 is being compared with the M8, can someone comment on 4-GB card compatibility for the G9?
(Sorry for the hijack.)

For the M8 I stick to 2GB extreme III and ultra II. It is too much of a crap shoot with the 4GB SD cards, and there isn't a brand I trust other than sandisk (who doesn't make a 4GB SD card, or at least not a fast one).
Hopefully SDHC support gets rolled out around the time of photokina. Molly, If you aren't in a rush and already have some cards you can use it might be worth waiting a week to see what is announced at photokina.

The question was 4GB cards for the M8. Leica recommend the Hama, amongst others. See:

These 4Gb ones also work in the M8 (despite not being on Leica's list), I've got one:
