40.5mm Filters, hoods etc.

Well well, a lot of people searching for 40,5mm filters!
I have the following but since I sold my Rokkor 40 to Todd I do not need them anymore:
UV by B&W, UV by Minolta, red by Hoya and yellow by Hoya.
And an original Leica 41mm light yellow (for summarit, 13155). And a red tiffen 55mm (fits the Canon 50mm 1,2!).
$20 each?

All filters are in good shape or new.

I just bought a 40.5 vented hood also. He still has 39mm available, at least last night. I purchased several items from him and his service is excellent.
 
Just about any German f2.8 lens of the 50s and 60s took a 40.5 filter so they can't be that hard to find. I was using a Zeiss filter and lens hood on my (gasp!) Olympus digital when I first got it. They normally live on a Diax/Xenar. The local camera shop right here in beautiful downtown Dee Why produced a new Kenko 40.5 UV over the counter. I understand it is a common size for video cameras.
The real fun, though, is going to be trying to find 19.5mm (?) stuff for my FED f3.5. .... Hmmm
I naively thought it would take 34mm like my Summar but I now realise the Elmar won't either.
 
Strange, in my experience on eBay, 40.5 filters are plentiful and cheap. Brand new UV or skylight filters selling for between USD 2 and 3. Filter adapters (x to 40.5 mm) can be had as well, for about USD 6 to 7. You just have to restrain yourself when you feel the urge to "settle" your filter needs in one day. But that's the essence of eBay. You pay a price for impatience. Within one month, however, you can find what you need in 40.5 filters at very low prices.

And maybe I have been lucky, but on at least three Russian camera's I bought, I found, as an added bonus, a perfectly usable yellow filter that was not in the auction picture....

Last but not least, lens hoods can be made free of charge out of plastic medicine bottles. If you are not DIY-ly inclined, alex-photo sells them for USD 2 a piece.

Wow! Great idea! Thanks! (I've even got some Teflon tape on hand.)

In desperation I got a 41mm to 46mm step-up ring for my Summarit so I could share 46mm filters with the 28mm Ultron, but I would much rather share the 40.5mm filters with my 40mm M-Rokkor. I've always thought that the smaller the filter, the less chance for flare.

I've got several 40.5 filters on Ebay. We pretty easy to find. I've been considering picking up a 40.5 to 49mm adapter. Would look a little weird but lots of 49mm around. B&H has the adapter
 
I have "equalized" the threads of all Kiev lenses by purchasing three step-up rings 40.5~49. By this way I have simplified a lot the whole issue of filters and hoods within the Kiev lens system. And I can take advantage of what I already have from my OM system, plus the Oly RFs. And my Iskras as well via a different combination ending in the 49mm thread.
Therefore for All these cameras I have the same filter kit, which includes 2 linear polarizers, 1 circular (for the OM), 1 warmer for color film at shadows or cloudy days, 1 diffuser, 1 skylight, 1 anti-fluorescent.
My standard hood for the Kiev lenses is the Olympus metalic 85~100 which doesn't interfere at all with the J-8.
For the J-12 I do not use any filter but just the step-up, facilitating the f/stop change and adding a bit of extra shade and defense.
The bottom line is I ended the mess and have a single filter kit for all 35mm cameras I own.

None of the older Elmar's even have filter treads (there's threads, but it's not a filter thread). You're looking for a A36 filter, which is a 36mm push on. We were just talking about this in a few other threads.

The Elmar or Argus C3 19mm filters screw right into the thread next to the 1:3.5 FED or Industar lenses. You should search Ebay for "Elmar filter". A seller called "airwatches" sells sets consisting of a red, yellow and green filter. I ordered one, and it came in today. The filters fit right in!

Well, there were screw-in close-up lenses (ELPRO etc -- I've had a full set) which means that filters have to fit too.

Took a much closer look at the 50/3.5, and you're right, there's more of a thread there than my 35/3.5, which has literally just 2 threads. I'll have to try to find some of those filters at a reasonable price.

I see that my I-22 has them also.
 
If you want to use 39mm filters on the collapsible Elmar or Industar, you will have to look for a SOOGZ, its a Leitz made adapter which clamps onto the lens. I found one in an odds and ends bin a few years ago, but no doubt as in all things Leitz, they will now cost a fortune so they can lie in someones display cabinet!! :bang: I also have a similar Canon device.

You can make one by knocking the glass out of an old A36 clamp-on filter and a 39mm filter and gluing them together. I made one for $10 out of a junk A36 filter and an old B+W rubber hood which I had on hand. http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=117350#post117350
