40 mm Nokton and M2 framelines

Hello,
This question has probably been asked here before, but I couldn't dig it up. I recently purchased a M2 and when I mount my CV 40 mm Nokton, the 50 mm frame lines come up. I've seen lots of photos online taken with M2's and 40 mm Noktons. What's everybody doing? Just preview using the 35 mm lines?, guess/estimate?

Yep, that's right. If you wanted to, you can modify the lens mount with a little filing so that the lens will bring up the 35mm framelines by itself. Otherwise, just toggle between 35 and 50 to estimate the framing of the 40mm view.

I don't mind the toggling back and forth. I am a little amazed by the very large difference in frame size from 50 to 35.
If I did want to file that adaptor, where exactly would I file?

I'm going to drop a note to DAG. I had an old 35mm Leica lens tweaked like this @ Ken Hansen's shop years ago for free. It was simple so I expect DAG should be reasonable. I would do it myself but I do not have the good screwdrivers or grinder I would want.

Any good local camera repair should do it.

Till now, I just used a 35 finder on my T, but moving back to my M6, I need this one tweaked too. I will let you know how I make out.

Thanks for your replies. Yes I see the area you are refering to. I'll wait to hear how you made out B2 before I do anything. I sure wouldn't want to do anything to harm the lens, but I think I could probably manage to file a little of the flange off.

DAG asked for $25 USD plus shipping.

I am shipping mine out tomorrow as I have two other lenses going to him for TLC.

While it is something I can do, but I would rather spend the money and let the expert do it. I do not want to mess up the lens.

I modified the flange on my 40mm Nokton with the file on a Leatherman Multi-Tool. I left the mount on the lens but agree with Roland that it's a good idea to take the mount off first.

The 35mm framelines are quite accurate for the 40mm on my M6TTL - even close up.
