40mm Choice

Well, do you need a faster lens or not? If you do - it's simple. When I had to make this descision, I went with Rokkor simply because I liked the Bokeh, and overall look it gives photos. In my opinion it sort of "paints" with light, where CV lens is not as smooth to me. Both are probably as sharp. I like my Minolta rokkor and now that I have used it for a while - I am glad that I got it. Probably my most used lens now. So, I'd say look at some photos - do a search here or on flickr on both lenses and see which gives you the look that you are after. All comes down to a personal taste, I think.

I have both

I have both

I use the CV 40 on my M3 when I need the speed. The cron is getting less use now that I have started using slower ISO/ASA film, although I love the compactness of it. I can put it on the M6, or the M3, and put it in my Photo-Vest pocket, and like the col 90 Elmar, it fits into small spaces.
As much as I like the Cron, I still don't know if I will keep it.

I bought the Rokkor 40mm, impulse buy, so hopefully I won't be let down buy it.
Anyway got a good lens hood to pair with it that isn't ridicolously expensive?

It is an excellent lens. I got a nice 40.5mm vented hood for it from heavystar on ebay. It came with a lens cap which fits on the hood, and as I recall it was inexpensive.

I've got both albeit it's the Leica 'cron rather than the rokkor, personally prefer the CV over the 'cron as it gives delicious bokeh (but bokeh is all personal taste) and the additional stop.

The choice should also depend on what other lenses you have. For myself, I bought the CV40f1.4 because I did not have any other lenses faster than f2. (except a Summarit, but that's a special one, and big and heavy.)

Hi,
I do not have the rokkor but I have the Summicron and the CV. I actually got the CV first, then the Summicron. I have hardly used my CV afterwards as I like the tones my Summicron gives. If you decide to get the Summicron though, be prepare to have a hard time looking for hood/cap.
Here is the link to my Summicron 40mm shots:

And the link to my Nokton 40mm shots:

Good luck.

I've read through Raid's review, but thank you for noticing that for me.
This will be my first lens, along with my first Leica, so I'm pretty excited for this package to be put together:
Leica M3/M2 - Rokkor 2/40 - Heavystar 40.5 Hood - Gordy Strap - Tom A. Soft Touch.

- Now, as for a square hood, does anyone know of an option for me?
