I'm looking for 1-2 of these for my Canon 50mm 1.8 LTM lenses, I just got some period series vi hoods and I'd like to attach them. Unfortunately it's got the weird 40mm filter threads.

Closest I was able to find on ebay is Kodak no.62 adapters, which are "40.2mm", any idea if these will work? I suppose I could buy a 40-40.5mm adapter but this seems a bit over-complicated.

Thanks!

You may need a slip-on adapter for that lens. All lenses have threads on the inside of the barrel which hold the beauty ring and or front group in. Some of these are very fine threads and are not meant to be used for filtration. I have a bunch of motion picture lenses where this is the case. If your thread is very fine, you probably won't find the correct pitch even if you do find the correct diameter. Sticking a filter or filter adapter to some of these threads can ruin a lens. I think 100% of the series adapters are made of aluminum and threading them into brass or aluminum without precise fit of the threads can cause severe binding and the adapter may have to be cut off. Tread very lightly here, Canon used non-standard threading and filtration (there was no standard between companies at the time) so they could sell the customer their own filters and hoods to stick on their lenses.
What about getting the proper Canon clamp-on hood?

The Canon clamp-on S-42 and T-42 hoods are Series VI adapters. The silver clamp unscrews from the black hood and a series VI filter fits inside.

My T-42 works fine on my 1.8/50. Of course, my lens has the Serenar style chrome body but I believe the front rings for the chrome and black 1.8/50s are the same diameter.
