Each of the modifications usually includes a method to reach the button that releases the lens. I've seen references to popsicle sticks, as an example. The problem lies in the fact that the diameter of the lens extends beyond the release, and effectively covers it. Something of suitable thickness and stability must be slid between, and used to press on the release.
I would guess it would be simple to use either the aforementioned wooden implement, or something made using a piece of plastic. Metal wouldn't be a good idea, because of potential damage or scratching of either camera or lens, or both. I would think it would be especially harmful to the vulcanite.
It may look a bit silly to have a popsicle stick in your shirt pocket or camera case, but if it does the job....
Otherwise, you can just have a fixed lens camera, albeit a rather pricey one.
