Hi all,
I fell in love a while back with Canon LTM lenses and have been on a buying/cleaning/shooting spree with the various 50mm lenses I could find on the 'bay. Right now the 50/1.4 is glued to my camera, but I've been getting a decent amount of flare shooting with it.
The 1.8 was my last acquisition and it took the bizarre 40mm threading, and I understand the 1.4 takes a 40mm thread. Does anyone recommend a hood for this lens? I have a cheap aftermarket hood for my Fuji and was curious if anyone has a solution for this admittedly minor problem.

I have a 50/1.8 and use a 40->40.5 step up ring and a 40.5 hood
For the 50/1.4 (when I had it) I've used a 48->49 step up ring and a 49 vented hood.
This generic stuff can be find cheap in the bay.

I too use a 48>49 step up ring with a generic 49 hood for my 50/1.4

48mm is much easier to filter and hood than 40. And I don't like screw on hoods like the Canon S-50.

I have an old 48mm Hoya hood that I used to use on my Canon 50/1.4 and now use on my Komura 80/1.8. You can even find new Heliopan 48mm hoods, such as this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800675-REG/Heliopan_73048H_48_mm_Metal_Lens.html.

And you can find 48mm filters from Hoya, B+W or even Leica (the old 90/2 had 48mm thread).

The correct hood for your 50/1.4 lens is the Canon S-50 hood. This hood has an inside diameter of 50mm, and clamps on to the front of the lens.

The correct hood for the 50/1.8 is the S-42 hood, and it attaches the same way.

These hoods often pop up on eBay, I have sold a few of them myself. Try to find ne with the original case.
