"Harsh" bokeh is also something of a state of mind. I would argue that it is quite natural. I've been nearsighted all my adult life. If I take off my eyeglasses and close one eye, the OOF highlights and bokeh that I see have double lines, clumped highlights and some kind of physiological version of UnSharpMask where the brain is trying to sharpen blurry images, making a point-source of light appear almost like a spoked wheel. For this reason, I've never found so-called "harsh" bokeh to be all that unnatural.
