Hi all,

I bought a UVa filter (E39) for my Elmar Collapsible 50/2.8 (latest version), but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to screw it in. The built-in (non removable) metal lense-shade doesn't have any screw-tracks (are they called pitch?)

Any idea what to do? (Especially as I want to use the lense on my M8 and will need to screw in a UV/IR filter)...

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure the lens hood is not removable? I've only seen this lens in pictures. My previous version 50/2.8 has a removable hood. But it doesn't seem to me that Leica would build a 50 Elmar that can't take a filter. I wonder if you have a screw-in hood that looks non-removable. Does it look like it might be screwed into the filter threads? Maybe it can be unscrewed, and then the filter can be fitted, and the hood added to the filter?

Pull the lens out and allow it to lock in place. Then place the lens with the hood against the palm of your hand and turn. This usually frees up the threads. If you grab the lens and try to turn it with your fingers, the pressure slightly "distorts" the hood and makes it stick even more!!
