I have had this lens cleaned internally and have been impressed by what it can do stopped down to F9 (no misprint). It has no coating, no serial number and is nickle finnished. If you noticed a black spot on right side of the photo it is really a bird on enlargement. In the rush to newer and better the old stuff can still deliver surprisingly well. A yellow filter was attached. Not the original attachment fixed for exposure.

In the days of black and white photography, the old Zeiss Tessar lenses weren't called the eagle's eye for nothing. The Elmar is just another rendition of the Tessar formula. Even Nikon has done a reissue of the Tessar. They are not fast, but do deliver the goods at f/8 to f/11.

I too have a 5cm/f3.5 Elmar. Mine is coated and was made in 1949, now over 50 years old but still making sharp images. I am thinking of getting it CLAd. Great lens! :)

I have to apologize becaue the photo is much darker viewed here then when viewed in PS at home. Don't know what happened.

It was but not with anything like a colour spyder. Oh well, next project should be colour management.
