$500 M8 rebate

It is €800 in Europe if you trade-in a camera (basically whichever one, it is is price rebate).
I don't think they would take back a Zenit EM or a FED-2 and allow you to benefit of the €800 rebate, though.

;)

Option 3 is that they leave the digital behind and the new model is a film M9 with AF and matrix metering.

:p

Interesting - usually rebates and price reductions occur when a new model near. We'll see...

But in the case of Leica a sign that an item is being replaced could well mean the price triples and a wooden cigar box sweetens the deal! :bang:

I am sure you could get it even with a Lomo.;) Manufacturers don't like to just cut prices, they prefer to package, promote or any other sales techniques. Eventually, dealers will have a few customers turning in a D80's and make a few bucks reselling them, it is worth trying. But they won't let you go with your €4000 euros because of a €100 difference in trade-in value.

this could be where leica announces there R10 digital then disappears as a company after they find out no ones uses R cameras.

Maybe there's a new model coming, we'll just have to wait and see. But this $500 rebate doesn't even get the M8 back to what it cost in the beginning. Compare that to the Canon 5D, which is slated for replacement soon. It was $3300 in the beginning, but $1800 now. I would be very surprised if a $500 rebate on the M8 now really spurs sales all that much.

Just read (actually saw on YouTube) that Leica is making 1,000 M8s' per month and 500 MP/M7s'. Don't know if 12,000 M8/year is a good or bad sales number.

Here's the link to the YouTube video:

actually 12K is consistent with historical M production numbers. - and for a camera (M8) with so many issues its a pretty good production rate. I am surprised that MP/M7 production is so low and the amount appears suspect to me because Leica seldom provides current production rates.

I wonder if any of the Japanese folks arrive with a surprise in the Digital RF camp @ Photokina.
Dave, you know in your heart that the DRF with the D700 sensor is just a matter of time.
(Someone's gotta keep the Nikon DRF dream/rumour going, and I'll gladly volunteer.)

Well.. either that, but the DRF would have to be a branded Nikon in that case, or Sony decides to sell someone their FF sensor (that someone being either Cosina Voigtlander/Zeiss and/or Leica.. but I don't really know the corporate size of CV/Zeiss over Leica - Leica's pretty diminutive per se)
