Does anyone know if this will work on the R-d1? I thought I read something about it extending too far into the camera but it might have been for the M8.

It should. The older Summitar works on the RD-1 and could even be collapsed. I believe both this and the Summicron have similar back extension lengths when collapsed.

the old summicron has hardly any collapse due to the width of the focus mech. i've no experience of the RD-1, but compared to the collapse of other lenses, the summicron should be fine

It's my favourite 50 on the R-D1 (today! :) ) - works a treat, collapses with no problem at all.

ps mine's a '57 M-mount.

I have a SM Summitar. It can collapse with out harming anything? I just got my RD-1 and I thought about it.

With the adapter on the lens, measure the distance the lens sticks out at the back while collapsed, measuring from the inner surface of the adapter where it contacts the lens flange.

If it's less than 20.5mm there's no problem. :)

also as Zorkikat said above...
